Crown and Goose – Oscar for the one decent pub in Camden Town?

As the guy once said, a good pub in Camden Town is hard to find.

But the Crown and Goose, aka Goose and Crown/Moose and Frown (or so Abi calls it,) tucked away on the corner of Delancey and Arlington, is the real ramona, with friendly staff and excellent gastropub-type food, made by a chef fresh from Michelin-starred acclaim.

The place abides, despite its owners almost getting the green light to turn the pub into a strip joint (a sure indication the kind of classy outfits that operate in Camden…)

So all the more reason to cherish it, if it weren’t already the top of the pub pile in a Camden packed with by-the-numbers, characterless craphaunts.

downright snobbery i call it. there are plenty of “decent” pubs in Camden. let’s start with The Enterprise, at the opposite end of the high street. Food’s not as good as the Crown and Goose, admittedly, but definitely “decent”. Dingwalls & accompanying Bar Risa (although it wasn’t called that when I lived there) is pretty banging on a weekend evening. And the only people who don’t like the Lock Tavern (very good food, excellent beer on tap) are people who think it’s “too cool” (if you think you’re cool enough to hang out there, you’re right – and vice versa). It’s too crowded on the weekend but that’s because it’s good. Head there on a week night.
    I could go on.
Apologies for the rant, Blogger, but as a former resident of Camden I feel like I have to stand up for it. There’s loads of great places to drink there – unless you’re the kind of person who won’t go to a pub because it’s “too cool”, “too chavvy” (i.e. too common), “too loud”, or what have you. Get over yourself bruv!

Chill Winston! I don’t want to annoy you even further, but here goes:

I was really meaning the ‘Town itself – those I’d class as Chalk Farm… Lock Tavern’s okay, the other one i haven’t been to.. recently went to the renamed moon under water, and was truly dreadful…

I hope you don’t seek me out with a big gang of Camden Town-based pub afficianados and burn down my house for this…
